Ukulele players take to the water

Stay tuned and don’t fret – you won’t drift away at a special canal concert as part of Iúr Cinn Fleadh over the Bank Holiday weekend.

That’s because a Newry ukulele group is taking to the water – or at least the Albert Basin – for a quirky gig as part of the Fleadh. And while the music might move you, the ship won’t!

TALL SHIP

Yew Tree Ukes love singing, playing ukuleke and having fun – and they’ll be entertaining the public this Saturday 23 August on board the Brian Boru.

The tall ship will be moored at the Albert Basin, outside The Quays Shopping Centre. But unlike the Trad Cruises taking place over the weekend, it won’t be moving for the duration of the gig.

If you want to hear some great music and have a look around the Brian Boru, call down anytime between 11am and 1pm. Numbers are limited, so be sure to get there early.

LOCAL TALENT

This is one of more than 80 gigs on in the city this weekend as part of Newry’s annual culture and communities festival Iúr Cinn Fleadh. Be sure to get along to some of the events and support local talent.

Pick up an Event Guide at a pub, cafe or shop in and around Newry, or you can download a copy here.
