How to dance on the water

Festivalgoers danced on the water during the 2024 Iúr Cinn Fleadh. It may not have been a miracle – but it was certainly a sight to behold!

They were enjoying a session by local ukulele group Yew Tree Ukes. The band were performing on board the tall ship Brian Ború while the vessel was moored at the Albert Basin outside The Quays Shopping Centre.

The Brian Ború was usually busy taking revellers up and down the Newry Ship Canal for the highly popular Trad Cruise. But this time it was staying put for the duration of the gig.

The Yew Tree Ukes offered just one of more than 80 gigs by a whole host of bands and artists that were taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend across Newry for the annual Fleadh. The band have since been playing Christmas sessions at Buttercrane Centre to support Southern Area Hospice.
