A last-minute venue change has led to an even bigger Bank Holiday treat for families and children attending Iúr Cinn Fleadh.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, The Moon and Sixpence Puppet Theatre has had to be moved from the Albert Basin to Newry Cathedral Gardens.
MARIONETTE SHOW
However, the popular marionette show will now be joined by The Railway Ramblers – a brand new band of bright young musicians who’ve emerged from The Railway Bar sessions.
That means festivalgoers can enjoy not only the revamped fairy tale of Jacqueline And The Beanstalk – but also a set of lively tunes from five accomplished local players.
Jacqueline And The Beanstalk is a retelling of the classic story that upends the gender-stereotyping of traditional fairy tales and tackles the issue of bullying.
The Railway Ramblers are five trad musicians who’ve cut their teeth with their elders at The Railway Bar – and this will be their inaugural performance.
CATHEDRAL GARDENS
‘We’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received from musicians at the Railway,’ said band member Finnbarr McQuade. ‘Now we’re excited to take what we’ve learned and create something of our own.’
Puppets and ramblers are go at the Cathedral Gardens on 24 August, 11am-1pm. It’s a free event – simply turn up to join in the fun – and please respect the grounds that have been specially provided for the Fleadh.
